Appeal for information: ASB Sherwood Fields area of Mablethorpe

We understand that incidents of anti-social behaviour are causing concern for the local community of Mablethorpe and beyond, and we are taking reports of this intimidating and unlawful behaviour extremely seriously.

We were called at 8.31pm on Saturday 26 September to a disturbance in The Sherwood Fields area.  It was reported that a group of around 20 teenagers were allegedly drinking in the area, throwing glass into the road and at passing cars.

When officers attended, a number of individuals were identified and a 16-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, making threats to kill and public order offences. The teen has been released under investigation. Further offences linked to the incident are also being investigated. 

While officers were dealing with the arrest, a larger group gathered nearby. Some were reported to be drunk, abusive and obstructive towards officers carrying out their duties. A number were also seen wearing balaclavas and riding suspected illegally modified e-bikes. Officers reported that some riders deliberately attempted to intimidate officers and disrupt their work by wheel spinning the bikes in front of them in an attempt to cover people in mud.

This behaviour is completely unacceptable. Residents, visitors, and businesses should not feel intimidated in their own community, nor should officers face hostility while carrying out their duties to keep people safe.

We are committed to identifying those involved and will use all available investigative opportunities to establish who was responsible.

As part of our Lincs 2030 transformation programme, we're proactively tackling anti-social behaviour and issues that matter most to communities, with a focus on structured problem solving that tackles issues early. This is done in collaboration with partner agencies and with a philosophy of prevention at the core. Preventing crime starts long before offences are committed. That is why a significant part of our crime prevention strategy focuses on working with young people, challenging negative behaviours, and supporting them to make responsible decisions. 

Where offences are identified, we will take robust action to work with schools and partner agencies to consider appropriate interventions to prevent further offending and anti-social behaviour.

We believe those involved in this incident were from Mablethorpe, Louth, and surrounding areas. We would ask parents and guardians to speak with young people about their whereabouts, the risks associated with alcohol consumption, and the consequences that anti-social and criminal behaviour can have on victims, the wider community, and their own futures.

We know incidents like this can have a significant impact on how safe people feel in their community. Let me be clear: this was not harmless fun. The behaviour reported was dangerous, intimidating, and disruptive, and we are determined to identify those responsible to put in place relevant interventions with partner agencies.

We are appealing to anyone who witnessed what happened, captured footage on mobile phones, CCTV, dashcam or doorbell cameras, or who has information about those involved, to get in touch. Even the smallest detail could assist our inquiries.
